i remember this video.......built Ford Tough my ass. My 2013 had a constant check engine light from 20K miles to about 75K miles - constantly in the shop. timing chain rattle started around 40K miles but the dealer refused to diagnose it until it was out of warranty. Luckily Ford paid for some of the cost to repair. Truck has had turbo leaks, catalytic converter failure, engine misfires, transmission issues with the lead frame, fan blower issues, more misfires, rear brake issues, and of course MyTouch issues. the funny thing about this truck is that after 75K miles it has run nearly perfect - go figure. it now has 136K on it and going strong (knock on wood). i keep it because i don't want to pay $80K for a new truck and inherit the poor quality Ford is having with their new trucks. Surprised Ford didn't mention the carbon build up thing in this video.......even the gen 2's have it

I want to know how they ran it so hot on the track with the turbos glowing red and didn’t have any exhaust manifolds go bad? That’s been the only real repair I’ve had to do with mine from running it too hot towing in the summer! Otherwise it’s been a GREAT truck!

bought my 2015 3.5 ecoboost. and this video did convince me :) at 110k miles, i had to replace turbo cooling connector because of coolant leak. Painful to do at home, but do able .

Had 2014 F150 XLT with that 3.5 turbo,amazing motor...drove from bowling green kentucky to Erie pa with one tank of gas,and i was driving 80 to 90 MPH and that motor was just hummin along

I inherited my dads 2018 f150 xlt 4x4. It has the 2.7L ecoboost with 34k miles. I absolutely love this truck.

Hmmm. They did all that to it and THEIR exhaust never warped and pulled from the block... Their turbos never leaked and needed replacement. Their cam phasers never rattled like a kid's toy. GUESS SOME ARE JUST LUCKY.

After 10yrs and over 300k miles the engine still runs but overheat under heavy drive or towing anything behind. New rad, pump, therm, timing comp, head gasket. Ect, ect, ect..... Where is the problem on that 2012 f150 3.5 4x4. I will read all suggestions and following the smartest ones. 😂😂 Thanks in advance!!!

I love our eco boost ford..... But i gotta say this......they should of tested this against the chevy 6.6 non diesel......its my work truck......they mentioned 80 mph at full throttle......80 mph has me just over 2000 rpms on the the highway.....with a 24ft trailer loaded with a 40....50 lb bags of fert ..... Two zsprays and 100 gallons of water.....however we have a fusion sport 2.7 Eco AWD.... So much fun to drive.....HERE IS THE ONE THING THE SEPARATES CHEVY FROM FORD.....WHEN THINGS BREAK.....AND THEY WILL.....CHEVYS ARE 100X EASIER TO WORK ON.....THATS WHY I USE THEM FOR WORK.....AND FORDS FOR AT HOME.....

I don’t see how the cam phasers can fail if they test them like this. So maybe the should test them to 300,000 miles.

They only test them to 150,000 miles? Why can’t they test them to 300,000?

Have owned my 2015 ecoboost for over 4 years now, its approaching 200K on the odometer, besides basic maintenance ive had to do almost nothing to this truck, the most major repair i have had to do is spark plugs and an exhaust manifold.

This video made me buy my 2018 3.5 Ecoboost F150. 2 years in, it's a F'ing MONSTER!!! I love her even after trading in my beloved Audi S4 (6 speed manual). If you're watching this and considering a truck, buy this one.

I got a 2016 ford f150 platinum super crew fx4 3.5 L ecoboost and i wouldnt change it for nothing ! Great power and acceleration. I even put big rims and tires on it and its still as fast as before! Had it for about 6 years and i have had zeroo problems just normal things like brakes, oil changes and thats about it ohh and new battery !

Ford also does a lot of their testing with van services that go from the Denver or Gunnison to ski resorts. I have been on many trips to ski in Colorado and watched Ford vans sit near redline, fully loaded, all the way up the mountain, and then, all the way down the mountain, at redline, in lower gears, to save the brakes. One van service that I used said that Ford does all of the fluid changes on their vans and gives the vans a new engine and transmission at $150K and the van service then sells that van to a ski service located in the Andes in South America. Ford then disasembles the engine and looks for all of the wear points. Knowing that those motors and transmissions can take that kind of abuse for 150K miles is the one of the reasons that I'm a Ford truck guy.

My 12 5.0 yotte would do everything that Eco boost did and the air intake would be barking and it would sound a whole lot cooler in the process

In real world testing, which I have done. I put a $2,500 lb trailer behind the F-150 5 l with the six-speed transmission. I also did the EcoBoost 3.5 l with a 6-speed transmission and did the same trip. This is a real world trip over Snoqualmie pass and to Eastern Washington from Seattle. I drove the vehicles like you would normally drive, easy and not stomping on it but not feathering the gas either. I got 15.5 mi to the gallon in the 5 l and I got 11.2 mi to the gallon in the EcoBoost. The problem with the EcoBoost is, with a trailer on it and needing to actually do a load it uses the turbos as they are designed to be used, so you get the torque and a very nice pull over the past. But you sacrifice fuel! All the tests I have seen done act as if you were using the F-150 as he commuter vehicle on flat surfaces in not real world conditions. And even then the EcoBoost only gets about 1.8 mi to the gallon better. No vehicle is driven like that. If you are using your F-150 for a commuter vehicle you are not being very environmentally friendly or helping save fuel. Drive a little economy car. On the other hand if you're going to use it for what it's made for which is pulling, hauling, everything else. You cannot beat that naturally aspirated 5 l. Then when it comes to problems with a vehicle after 100,000, suddenly you've got a very expensive turbo leak and all kinds of other issues! I know I was a master Lincoln Mercury Ford technician and I saw all kinds of vehicles through there. The big complaint from the 3.5 l turbo customers was fuel economy averaging around 16 to 17 at best. And this is with no trailer. It was just real-world driving. But they also were very happy with the tremendous torque and pulling power that this vehicle had and the acceleration. Overall that 5 l is the best engine to use, the whole idea of building a small engine and putting a turbo on it for fuel economy in the real world does not work! Nobody drives a big truck and feathers the throttle carrying only their lunch pail at least not very many. Think about it? Steve

Yet I still break it

I went to get river rock with a dump trailer and my 2012 eco boost. They loaded 4 bobcat buckets of med size river rock. The trailor hitch almost went to the ground. The tandem tires went almost half flat. I was like oh crap. All ready loaded and had a 30min drive on back roads. Power wise never felt a thing like it wasn’t even towing. I was only worried about the brakes as the trailer didn’t have electric brakes. I didn’t get to weigh it I wish I cudda.

No mention of CAM PHASERS? Ford replaced my long block due to cam phasers failure at 25,000 miles! Great truck otherwise.

The competition at the time ram and Silverado were complete GARBAGE I’ve owned an 11’ eco f150 before and don’t regret it. Awesome concept awesome power nothing came close at the time. Turbos are a curse and a blessing but maintain them and they can go a long time not forever but I’d take this truck over the competition at the time any day of the week it wasn’t even fair.
